S.M., gave judgment in the case against .)aim's Scott, who wa.s charged wilii being in the .street for the purpose of belting, and with publishing betting cards. 'The facts were admitted by the defence. The Magistrate .said a bookmaker had a. right to be in the street'. as long as he was net (here for hefting purposes. There must, be ovidem-e to prove that was the purpose. In ih» Magistrate's | opinion the mere giving of a betting card was not sufficient. Tho first information was there!' ire. dismissed. On the- second charge of the handing of a card to a person, this was sufficient; evidence of publication. The j defendant would be fined £lO.
