EXTRAORDINARY.
An Opposition journal in" the South has discovered that the Land Laws Amendment Act paves the way for a magnificent form of jobbery. ft says in all seriousness:
"The result of the amendment of the Act is that for a few hundreds of pounds properties, with, coalbearing areas, valued at tens of thousands, which should he worked in the interests of the country, will probably pass into the hands of lucky individuals who have no claim to them, though ' they are wise in taking advantage of the opportunity offered by the law to purchase them for a nominal sum."
Our Opposition friend is possibly not aware that the Government- has ample power to acquire, mineral areas when, and where it deems fit. But, after the Mokau transaction, one would have thought that- Oppositionists would have preserved a discreet silence in respect to coal-bearing areas.
