Constable Carmody's many friends •will regret to hear that lie has bad! the misfortune to break a blood vessel during an attack of coughing on Sunday night. Yesterday lie was a little better.
A sheep train special of some 40 trucks, together with five trucks of the golden fleece, went south through Carterton yesterday morning.
The returns for the year just closed at the Carterton Police Court _ include 121 offences for arrest, which is 52 imore than the previous twelve months; 63 charges for drunkenness were heard, an increase of 17._ Three indictable charges were dealt with, during the year, one was dismissed, one convicted, and one ill' sub judlice. Seventeen prohibition orders were issued. • For the past quarter 26 sittings of the Court were held, four being presided over by the Magistrate; the amount sued for was £192 10s lid', and the sum recovered £lB2 3s 5d.. The number of plaints entered for the quarter was 20.
