Mr A. A. W. Tate, formerly _ of Grey town. has been posted as lieutenant, to tlio 2nd battalion of the ."Liverpool Regiment (late Bth foot), presently stationed at Kuraehee (India). Mr Tate sat for, and successfully passed, Ms examination a few weeks ago.

Mr Joseph H. Berry, of Pongaroa, '.has been appointed to tlie position of ■overseer of the Akitio County Council. Mr -Berry has been in the employment of the Council as assistant *to the engineer for the past three jears, and ho has considerable ex--perience in road making. The salary •will be £250, including horse allowance.

Mr Evelyn Wrench, chief organiser of the Overseas Club, will return to Wellington from the south next Sunday. On the Monday he will be •accorded a civic reception by tho Mayor at the Town Hall at 4 p.m.; on the Tuesday he will be the guest of the New Zealand Club at luncheon; on the Wednesday he will he the guest of the Wellington Racing <Jlub; on the Thursday he will address a public meeting in the Sydney Street sphoolroom; and on Friday there is to be a conference of delegates and those interested iro the overseas movement. Mrs Ann Partridge, wife of Mr W. H. Partridge, a well known resident of-Carterton, died at her residence, Tyne Street, on Sunday, after a painful illness,, extending over two months. Deceased, w'ho had reached) the advanced age of 74 years, was a native of Lanarkshire, Scotland, and came to New Zealand 40 years ago, being married 34 years ago to Mr Partridge, at Wellington. She leaves several •eHildlren, among them being Mrs J. Russell, of Sydney, and Mrs A. W. 1/eviek, of Wellington. The late Mrs Partridge had many friends in "the district, and the bereaved husband! and .relatives will have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. The interment takes place at "the Clareville Cemetery to-day, and ■will be of a private character.. and! -there will be no flowers, by request.
