MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly mooting of tlio General Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was bold on Saturday last, there being present—Messrs J.. Strang (in the chair), H. Dagg, W., J. Welch. J. Daaar, R. Gray, O. .C. Cooper, W. Owner, .1. H- James, W. Perry, G. Shaw, W. D. Watson, D. Foreman, W. H. Buick, E- O. Harpor J. B. Moodio, D. Caselberg and! A. G. Pilme.r.
Apologies for absence wore received from Messrs 'lt. .1. Dagg. C. F. Vallance and H. Evans, Mr T. Horton wrote, expressing rogrct that he would be unable to net as judge, at the -coming show, as hewas leaving for America, but suggesting that hi* Pahinlna foreman (Mr H.' Dobbie) be appointed in his stead. —■ The suggestion was npprored. Tho Organising Secretary of the Farmers' Union (Mr T). Tlol>enton) wrote, stating that the Government had at present under consideration! tho question of immigration with regard to fann labourers and dcm cities, 'and the Minister (th? Hon H. I>. Bell) ha-d asked. for defuiit" particulars of the reo;uiroiTv«mis. The Farmers' Union hod thought that farmere jdifindrl indicate, what labour they would ho likely to require, and had framed a list for signature.—Mr Harl>er stated that there- wn« nndoubtedlv a shortage of fiwm labour in the district. At the .same time fce thought the matter one for a joint report on the requirements of the district, rather than for individual action.—A committee consisting of , Messrs E. Harper, W. Perry, G. Shaw, W. 1). Watson and R. Gray was .set up to frame a reply to the' Farmers' I Union.
A .report of the sub-committee set up to consider the question of altering- the date of the stock sale from the first to the second day of the show was vend. The committee, after giving careful consideration to ■the question, resolved that it wa,s inadvisable to adopt the suggestion, that the sale of fat .stock he held on the second day of the show.—The report was adopted.
The report of the meeting of the Ground Committee, at which Mr R. Gray presided, was read. The caretaker reported having cut the grass off half the grounds, but ha/I to stop for want of horses. He had-provided!' forty stretchers, twenty of which were made at each. A concrete platform had- been put -down for washing cattle. Of her. matters of minor importance were also reported upon. It was decided to. recommend that the caretaker be appointor! nightwate.hman on the showground on the show and' -ram fair dates. The •secretary Was instructed to see that, stock was removed, from the grounds, as suggested by the caretaker. The allocation of space for implement stands and for selling stands was left in. the. hands of Messrs Grav, Smrnroerel).' and W. J. Welch. It was resolved! that the Grown*] Committer meet on the showgrounds on Wednesday next. The Secretary was instructed, to ascertain from Hastings the cost, ef covering cattle with canvas.—• The report was adopted. Tli9 Finance -' Oommif-ee's report! wag read. Mr D. (V<elbe:-g having presided at the meeting. An application from Mrs Kirkwood for permfesion to conduct an art union on the frronnds on the occasion of the the Association to receive a percentage of the nroceed-s and to make arrangement* for a permit, was not entertained. The Secretary was instructed to issue a circular to members where subscriptions for the current year are unpaid, the 'rules bearing on the. subject to be quoted. Ti was deei4f4 that Mr A. H. Vile be again engaged to write \\\) the. show., The Treasurer's statement showed receipt* for the month ?i mounting to .£95 7s, and a debit balance at d.*?te> of £523 3s Id. Accounts amounting; to £SB were passed for payment. The Secretary was instructed to ascertain the. cost of three milk vats, for rulv•ttission to tho luncheon committee. [': was resolved that the refreshment booth and fruit stall privileges be submitted to public auction by Messrs Dalgetv and Co.. on Saturday, Jamuary 25th. aii'l that Mesas' T).
