A motor cyclist was run into by a motor car on the Carterton .Road °" Saturday evening. Fortunately neither were travelling very fast, or a serious accident would have no doubt been the result. An alarm was sounded on the Maf»terton fire bell at five minutes past eight last evening. The Fire Brigade turned out promptly, arid; the outbreak, was located in' the house of Mr Spencer Check, in Church Street. It seems 'the wind blew the curtain of a bedroom, with the result that it came in contact with a caudle and became ignited. The flames quickly reached the ceiling, which was soon alight. The outbreak was speedily got under, and before any great damage was dono.
