CARTERTON NEWS
Mr C. M. Whyte, of the local Post Office stafT, left here yesterday.afternoon on transfer to Wyndham, in the South Island. The local Fire, Brigade, of which Mi' Whyte wa<s an enthusiastic member, met him at the brigade station on Thursday evening and presented him with a handsome travelling rug. ' The annual picnic under the auspices of the Methodist Circuit is to be held in Mr W. McPartland's paddock on Anniversary Day.
The following officers have been installed bv Court Marquis of Normanby. A.0.F., for the ensuing half-year : C.R.. Bro W. Wright; S.C.R.. Bro J. Simtltowski; secretary, Bro R. J. Chapman ; treasurer, Bro A. F. Pink; S.W.. Bro H .Davies; J.W., Bro R. J. Clifton; 5.8., Bro C. Woodbury; J. 8., Bro J. Harp; M.S., Bro C. Moore; surgeons-, Drs Johnston and Gunn.
The Carterton Firs Brieade have decided to send a team to the United Fire Brigades Demonstration at Wangnnui tlie middle of next month. The team will comprise: Captain Mo Kenzie, Lieut. Jackson, Lieut. McKenzie. Firemen Desmond and Canton. Emergency, Fireman Byrne. The death is recorded from Palmerston North of Mrs Mary Driscoll. who for many years wa-s a resident of Carterton. She only left here a few months ago.
