WELLINGTON WOOL SALES

Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd. Out of a total of some 20,000 bales, wo catalogued 4,750, The condition of the wool, generally speaking,- did not compare favourably with. December sale's offerings, a large proportion of the lots showing out very eottel and sprinkled with hutiwai seed, which discounted their selling value to some extent. Taken as a whole, the wool was a little heavier in grease, than at last month's sale, although, hero and there, there were parcels equally light in grease. The major portion of the wool, however, was. not df a. high order, consisting' mostly of fair, top-making sorts. There was a large attendance, of buyers, and competition was spirited, and, at times, very animated, but 1 hardlv so general as last month, ami as there were very few American wools offering, the competition from this section was' not keenly felt. Prices for the best wools may be said ' to be a half-penny to three-farth-ings per lb. lower. For the ordinary wools, the average decline in prirr* may be roughly stated at a farthing to a halfpenny per lb all round, while pieces wore a good halfpenny lower, j Lambs wool was not forward in any quantity and sold freely up to lid to 11-kl for good clean lots. We made a total clearance of our catalogue, selling about 4.000 bales in the room, the lots withdrawn being mostly those which carried high reserves from owners. We quote as below:—Merino.
