SATURDAY'S MATCHES. The Wairarapa cricket championship matches wore eontiimed on Saturday in favourable weather. The pitches played well, although on the No. 2 ground the ball pitched badly towards the end of the game. Masterton B 'defeated Masterton, A by five wickets, although the latter put up the fine score of 179 in their .second innings, chiefly through good batting by Foreman, who compiled a useful 59. , i The Carlton-Marthiborough match ended in .something of a surprise, the former winning the match with five wickets to spare. W. Kemball and K. Welch were responsible for the victory, the former playing a fine innings for 68 not out, bv very sound cricket. He gave only one real chance early in the innings. K. Welch showed splendid form, and played a chancelesg innings for 62, making many excellent strokes, his driving being particularly good. This makes Martinborough' 9 first defeat, and Carlton's first win. The former were handicapped by being without the services of McAlpine and Evans, two iof the team's best bowlers. The j?tand made by Kemball and K. Welch was none the less attractive. The scorc-s were as follow:
