. THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. "SHANGHAIED" SEASON. 011 Saturday night the ever-enter-prising Thompson-Payne screened an unusually interesting and good programme to a packed house, the seating capacity being very heavily taxed. The programme was well varied, and every item shown was rocciv ocl with marked approval by the audience. The lieadliner of the series, "Shanghaied," proved to be above the ordinary standard of subject and in the course of its screening produced several bursts of applause. This film is by the popular Nordisk Company, and 2500 feet in length. The acting is superb, and the scenes perfect. It is a picture full of vim } and tells a really good story lof when a man could be "shanghaied." A fight- during the story, and the high sensational j drop into tiie sea, are only two of a | numljer of exciting incidents in the plot. An exceptional lot of dramas were phown in support of the star, and included "The School Teacher and the Waif" and "An Unseen Enemy" hy the A.B. Co. "Fire and Straw" a very fine conception by the Lubin Co and "Broncho Billy and the Indian Maid 1 ' (Essanay). The comedv section was well sustained, and among ih'* best wor© t Prof. Stout 3 Honeymoon, 1 ' "Pinned," "Calino Marries a. Suftragette" and "Won at the ftigh Tide,''' Among the scenic and educational portion was one of a drilling exhibition by the Reedham boys in "figure drill." This was a very clever and clean performance by England's renowned athletic and service college, and spoke very highly of the very fine training which must I Have been administered to get such ' unblemished results from the parti-
cij:ant=» Other films of interest were "'Peer Hunting in Ontario." "New nd "Quaint and Curious .Canterbury." This prolamine will be shown to-night and on Tuesday night. On Wednesday afternoon a free matinee will bo given to the , children, commencing at 2.30 o'clock. On Wednesday night there will bo a. complete change, the new bill including another 3000 feet Nordisk drama., entitled "When a Woman Loves." TOWN HALL PICTURES. "THE MUSKETEERS."
Picture lovers .were present in large numbers -at the Town Hall on Saturday night, when the Masterton Picture Company presented an entirely, new series of pictures, headed by "The Musketeers," by the world famed A.B. Company. The fitory illustrates the doing of the push gang type? of people, And it is indeed a most exciting picture. A lavishlystaged society drama, "The Bite," is the story of the theFt of a • valuable necklace, and the identification of the theft by a bite inflicted by the victim of the robbery. An Edison drama of merit, entitled "The Return of |Dr Marr," and "Blindman's T)og," a fine Mi]ano study, are also on the j programme. The new series also in- ' eludes an interesting manufacturing study ~Making U.S.A. Currency," and ehows how the famous American "greenbacks" printed. A scenic, ' which in many ways is also an industrial, is "Covent Garden Market." "Gaumont Graphic" contains ' many attractive events worth seeing.
In the comedy line the Pasquali 00. are again to tho fore with another hilarious conception, "Polidor Makes . Himself Known" is a comic fairly J bubbling with laughter, and "Then i Ho Did Laugh" describes the many i endeavours to make an \obnoxiotks ] man break the ice with a laugh. Altogether the programme ig one of considerable merit i and of a wholesome and entertaining character.
