ATHLETIC CLUB SPORTS
BOXING DAY. • Tlie number of athletes engaged at the sports, to be held! on the Park Oval, Master ton, on Boxing Day, constitute a record Ln> the history of Wairarapa sports gatherings. Prom this fact alone, a record attendance should result; but in addition, nearly all the Wellington and Wairarapa champions are engaged, and the public will have a unique opportunity of witnessing a big gathering of athletic talent. It reihains to be seen, whether our local cracks, such as Messenger McKonzie and Fisher, in the short distances, and Bradbury in | the long races, can hold their own with the visiting champions. Whichever way its goes, some interesting contests will be witnessed, and possibly cue or two new stars will be unearthed. Probably the most exciting event of the day will be the teams relay race. As there will be about eight teams of four men contesting this race. The conditions are that one man runs 440 yards, another 880 yards, and the other two men 220 yards each (ome mile in all). On two occasions last year a Mast-erton team were successful in this class of race; but if the Wellington team gets V. ■"Byrne, M. Pool. A. T. Duncan and A. Cumiinghamc together in one _ team, the strongest local combination will be hard. 1 mit to it to hold tlieir own. The number and variet- of the event* to be contested, and. the beautiful surroundings of the Park, must make an attractive outing for Boxing Day.
