OBSTRUCTION BY CHINA. SERIOUS SITUATION CREATED. (Received This Morning, 12.5 o'clock.) SHANGHAI, December 18. The accumulation of opium stocks, valued at £12,000,00. in consequence of China's systematic obstruction of the foreign opium trade, has created a serious situation. It is believed that China desires to repudiate the A n.glo-Ch i n esc Treaty. Sir John Jordan, British Plenipetea--liary at Peking, lias therefore warned China that unless the observant of the treaty ig assured, he will l.e compelled to draw the attention of the British Government to the subject.
