WELSH v. ME BEGAN. ENGLISHMAN TOO SPEEDY. (Received December 17, 2.30 p r m.) LONDON, December 16. In the match against tho Australian moxer (Hugh Mehegan), Welsh, who won on point?, showed great pace and judgment. He had the best of matters throughout, thougli he slackened in the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth round, when Mehegan was aggressive. Welsh regained his pace in the succeeding round. Mehegan always had a dangerous punch, but Welsh out-manoeuvred him both at close and long range-fighting. Mehegan was non-pln,»se<] at his opponent's speed, and futilcly attempted a knockout in the nineteenth round. Welsh showed splendid defence and footwork, while his ring-craft was verv clever, frequently frustrating Mehegan'.s chance of landing a, good blow. Mehegan was very strong, and alwavs threatened dancer, but found Welsh difficult to bit. There wan a good deal of clinching in the btter part of the contest. ■
