NATIVE MASSACRE
PAPUAN VILLAGES RAIDED. WHOLESALE MURDER OF NATIVES.
(Received December 17, 9.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 17. The mission steamer brings news of a .native massacre at Abau, Papua. A gang, headed by a notorious chief, raided several villages, and murdered! the natives wholesale. They then attacked the camp of a prospoctor named Arnold, who. after a desperate fight ,drovo off the attackers, killing ono andi wounding three. Parties of native police attempted to -surround the raiders, and killed one and wounded two. The police escaped. A mmitive oartv has been despatched.
