A WEST COAST GRIEVANCE.
The West Coast newspapers are up in ■arms because tho Government lias thrown upon the ratepayers of the Westland County the responsibility of maintaining eighty-two miles of road that have hitherto been maintained by the Government. If would appear that, in tho matter of road maintenance, the West Coast has for many years received special treatment. Many miles of road have been kept open at the expense of the country, while "nobody hn-s said miffink." It in a good tiling that tho Reform Party has come into power, if only to show the constituencies how they have been bled for the purchase of votes. It nee<] hardly he said, that the sole responsibility for maintaining the roads in this part of the Dominion falls upon the ratepayers, with the aid of the ordinary Government subsidv.
