Horr von Bethmann Hollweg, speaking in tlie Reiclrstag, said tlio decision of the Federal Council merely involved the codification of a long prevailing practice as regards tlio Jesuits. If, lie said, the Centre Party withdraws their confidence, they will simply make the anti-Jesuit law, the kevstone of their political programme. The antipathy of Protestants towards the Jesuit Order was justified by the latter's past.
