CARTERTON NEWS.
A meeting of the Wairarapa Licensing Bench was held at Carterton on Tuesday, Mr L. G. lleid, S.M., presiding. Four applications for transfers were received, and the police reports' being favourable, the application's were granted as under: Greytown Hotel, J." Eaton to S. Pol sen ; Club Hotel, Greytown, C. G. White to R. C. Dohro; Foresters' Arms Hotel, Greytown, Mary Oaulton to R. W. St. Leger; Martinborough Hotel, C. E. Brewer to M. R. Smith. The chairman congratulated the district upon the small amount of business in connection with the hotels, stating that it proved the houses were being conducted well, and to the satisfaction of both public and police. The local fire brigade have selected the following teams for competition for the Shield, the events to be run off shortly: No. 1, F. Jackson, W. Baillie, E. Phelps, D. Byrne, N. Sheppard; No. 2, H. McKenzie, R. Smith, R. Canton, G. Masson, A. Maras; No. 3, E. McKenzie, A. Desmond, P. Reid, 0. Hewson, H. Hutchison ; No. 4, J. McGninness, J. McKenzie, H. Wakelin, C. Lee, W. Tueker.
