LIEUTENANT HIRSCHBERG
A copy of the General Orders of tie N.Z. Defence Forces, dated Octobet Ist, 1912, has been placed at our disposal, which showri that Second ijienr tenant Ivan Hirschborg ha-:; been promoted to be Lieutenant of*'the 2nd Battalion Ninth Regiment, supernumerary to the establishment. The General Orders for November have also been shown us, and in those there is no mention of a rectification of the alleged clerical- error in regard to the promotion of Second Luviieiunt Hirschberg. In view of these facts it is highly desirable that ;,n inquiry should be held into the circumscuices under which the promotion was made. If it was purely a clerical err>r ,f.s alleged by the Acting-Adjutant, why. was that error not corrected in the General Orders for November'-' Tin's is a question which, in the interests 'of the defence system, wiil req:r're an answer. An orderly roon; inquiry into the conduct of the men who won I: off duty on Friday last will not satisfy the public. There 'n* an investigatn.i into the whole circumstances which led up to the trouble.
