PHYSICAL INSTRUCTION.
While the Wellington Post is expressing surprise that the Government did not appoint one of its friends to the vacancy on the directorate of the Hank of New Zealand, the Lyttelton Times and other journals are soundly rating the Ministry for selecting Mr Royd Garlick, whom they allege to bo a personal friend of a Minister, to the position of Chief Physical Instructor for'the Dominion. It is contended that the position should have been .advertised, and the best man selectled. As it happens, Mr Garlick is J practically unknown to Ministers. Eo has been strongly recommended for the- position by medical exports, and he is a recognised authority on physical exercises. There may be better men than him in the- Dominion. But, if ho is a good man, and the Govern- . ment believe him to bo tho best fitted (for the position, why challenge the appointment?
