Constable Bird has returned to Masterton from Huntly.

Mr J. W. Reardon has been appointed gaoler at Greyniouth. Mr J. D. Wilson, of Pahiatua, has resigned his appointment as ji Justice of the Peace.

The Hastings Tribune states that Dr S. F. Beard, formerly of Masterton, is at present in Napier.

Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., has been for several days in Wellington on business 'connected with his electorate. He returns to Masterton to-dav.

A New Plymouth telegram states that Mr Claude H. W eston has been appointed Crown Prosecutor in that township, in. succession to his late father.

Yesterday's arrivals at the Club Hotel, Masterton, included Mr Isley. Napier), Messrs O'Connor. Brown, Collier, Lewis and Palmer (Wellington). It is with extreme regret that we have to announce the death of Mrs Reside, wife of Mr A. Reside, of Lansdowne, which occurred at an early hour this morning. The deceased lady who was 59 years of age. bad boon suffering from a painful illness for some time, and death was not unexpected. Mr Reside .and family will have the deep sympathy of tlieir friends in Masterton, in their sad bereavement. A wedding of interest to Tawaha settlers was celebrated at Tawaha on Wednesday when Mr Frank (.'alyer. ! farmer, was united in the bonds' of i holy matrimony to Miss George, sister i of Mr A. W. George, of Tawaha.

The Rev. J. Rattray, of the Presbyterian Church at Pongaroa, who is well-known in Masterton, has been appointed to succeed 1 the Rev. R. McLean, M.A., at Springburn, near Ashburton. Mr Rattray succeeded Mr McLean at Pongaroa over four years ago. His farewell service will take place on Sunday, February 2-jth.

News reached New Zealand by the San Francisco mail of tho death of Ruby West wood. She and her brother Wilfred-were the two biggest children ever born in New Zealand, perhaps the biggest in the world. At the age of eight. Ruby weighed 14st. She grew proportionately, and at the time of her death, when she was about 19, she weighed over 20st.

A Christchurch telegram states that Mr James Henderson, of Dtinsande.l, who was injured in a motor car accident- on Wednesday, when returning from the Banks Peninsula Show, at Little River, died at the hospital last night. The deceased was a prominent farmer, and vice-president, of the Canterbury A. and P. Association, and was a member of the Countv Hospital Board.

J At the Teachers' Sunday School Preparation Class in St. Matthew's Sunday school last night a presentation was made by Mr R. Jones fin the absence of Mr Green, the superintendent) 011 behalf of the teachers to the 'Rev. H. Williams, acting-Vicar, who is shortly leaving Masterton. Mr Jones expressed the thorough appreciationl of the help given them by Mr Williams, and of the, up-to-date methods he had introduced in the classroom. The Rev Mr Williams, in reply the donors for their gift, and the kind thought that had prompted it. Ho touched briefly on their work, and pointed out its importance, tho Sunday school heir.;? the keystone of tho Church.
