SPEED OF MOTORS.
In the Old Country ju«t now, a vigorous campaign is being waged against the. mote>r "hog," and demands are being made that the speed at which motorists may travel on the public: highway shall be restricted. A similar demand has been made, in New Zealand for some time past, and the preservation of life ;uid limb will compel the. taking of action in lhe-matteiv It iH maintained by not & few that drivers of motor cars (especially those that are for hire) should be required to pass an examination, and that it should be an offence, punishable by heavy line, for a motorist to travel at a greater speed on .main roads than, say twenty mites an ' hour. The number of accidents that occur from reckless driving is so great that legislative measures are really urgent.
