CROSSING RAILWAYS.
fTo The Editor. ]
Sir, —I notice by your paper that Mr Buchanan has learned from the Railay ; Department that the charge of £1 Is and 10s per year is a reasonable one, and must be made for the protection of life and property, I
have railway gates on. my property, for which I am not charged, and there has never been an accident there. There are railway gates on everyone r s land abutting on the line, and there are no accidents, although, the owners do not pay. Why, then, should there be a likelihood of accidents unless T pay this charge? And if I do, it lessens the risk? The annual payment is bad . enough; but the guinea for :» deed! It is absurd. The .Railway Department have fired my paddocks , and killed my horse, and now want to;charge me for tho-.right..of. access to my property, instead of helping mc to get it. —I am, etc., AN'INJURED ONE. Master ton, -November 19, 1912.
