LAWN TENNIS.
INTER-STATE MATCHES.

MELBOURNE, November 19. For the inter-State tennis matches dull weather prevailed. The courts were soft. Interest was chiefly centred in the Dunlop Brookes versus Wright and A. B. Jones match. The latter pair were brilliant frequently, but their opponents, played magnificent tennis throughout, winning by G —3 and 6 —o. Brookes, by his serving, volleying and overhead work, won many sets, .drawing off the ground with .more pace than usual. The same pair beat Kidston and Anderson by 6 —4 and 6 —o.
Lycett and 'Heath played below their form, but won all their matches, beating Anderson and Kidston by 6—3, 3 —6, and 9 —7, and Marsh and Metcalfe by 6 —4 and 7- —5. O'Hara Wood and Campbell beat A. B. Jones and Wright by 7 —-5, 4 —6 and B—6. Woods showed remarkably fine work off the ground, and his volleys were splendid.
Tn the Men's Open Doubles, Mars-den-and C. Ballantyne beat OUivier ard Ballantyne by 6 —4 and 6—2.
