FITS AND STARTS.
Masterton has an unhappy knack of taking fits and starts over public matters. On no single public question is there any sustained effoit, What has become of our Railway League? Where i« out Closer Settlement League? What is the matte;.' with our Town Beautifying Society? When shall wo hear again of Park improvement? How many Societies and Leagues have come into existence with a blare of trumpets and passed into oblivion before they have completed a small portion of their rninsion? Masterton is worthy of better things. It has all the potentialities of a thriving, busy centre. But p< - tenbialities are beginning to get upon our nerves. We want more than potentialities. We want a few live men to throw hoart and soul into the development of the place. Then things will liven up, and the faces of business people will not have an elongated appearance. Who will jump into the breach ?
