YOUTHFUL SWEETHEARTS
QUARREL,
GIRL SUCCUMBS TO LYBOL.
(Received Last Night, 7.25 o'clock.) SYDNEY, November 18. A tragedy occurred at Waverley, a suburb of Sydney.
Tho body of a girl named Hilda Gowan was found in a park with two lysol bottles lying beside hor.
George Yeitch, aged 18 years, was found lying at bome dangerously ill, from lysol poisoning. Flo informed tho police that he and Hilda Cowan were sweethearts, and, having quarrelled, decided to poison themselves.
After praying together they swallowed a quantity of the poison. The girl died, but he managed to crawl home.
Veitch stated later that ho drank first, and became oblivious. Tho next thing ho remembered was finding himself in the hospital. He had no recollection of what became of tho girl.
The doctor considers that it would be impossible for anyone in Veitch's condition to reach homo alone.
The boy's sister Raid that she heard two sharp rings on the doorbell, and on answering found her brother collapsed in the doorway. It would be impossible for him to have rung, but he must have been assisted home. The medical examination of the girl Gowan showed that fihS took a big dose of the lysol, btit there was no indication that would explain tho tragedy.
