DISTRICT NEWS

(From our Correspnident.)

KAIPARORO

The weather, though .still unsettled, is very much milder, and tho change is greatly appreciated after the cold snap of last week.

A commencement ha-s been made with sheading, but up to tho present, owing to tho continuous wet, very littlo headway has been made. Mumps have again made their appearance in the district. Good progress is being made with tho work of laying the pipes in connection w%h the Eketahuna water supply, fliul each day heavy waggon loads of pipes are being carted out from Eketahuna.

lu spite of wet weather, work at the local sawmill has been carried on pretty regularly during tho past month. T tis expected that the timItcr close to the mill will be cut out in a few months' time, and the mill is then to be moved on to Mr Falkner's property, about two miles distant from its present position. Near the proposed site there is sufficient timber to tast for a considerable time.

Tho Rev Mcßoaji, of EketaJinna, ronducted Methodist services in the schoolroom last Sunday. Sunday School classes, organised by tho Rev Walke, of Eketahuna.. aro now Iveld weekly in the schoolroom. An effort is being made to obtain the use of the hall for church and Sunday School services. Whilst shearing last week, Mr F. S. Hawkins Had tho misfortune to rather severely out his right hand. 'Hie wound necessitated several stitches being put in, but it is now healing satisfactorily. Mr Pallant, who has carried the mail between horo and Eketahuna for the last seven or eight years, is retiring at the end of December, and is, I believe, to be succeeded by Mr Gibbard, of Hastwells.
