FIRE AT MARTON.

SOME NAJUiOW ESCAPES. (Bu Telegraph—-Vim Association.) MAHTOX, Last Night. A disastrous fire occurred at Marten at three o'clock this morning, the White Hart Hotel being totally destroyed. The building was owned; . by Messrs Hatriek and Gibbon?, of Wangamii, and occupied by Mr H. F. Cameron. The splendid work of the i fire brigade .saved the Town Flail, the White Hart stables and Assembly Rooms. The boarders and proprietor lost everything, the only article saved being a tuotor-eyelo belonging to Messrs Dalgety and Co., who occupied the office. The offices occupied bv Burgess and Co. and tho Marton Jockey Club were gutted, but the contents were saved. One wall of the stables was burnt, ;md the stock damaged. There, were several miraculous escapes, but a number sustained burns and shock to their system. Mr H. F. Cameron was severely burned on the face and hands ; Miss Evulnc Cameron (daughter),: burns on face and hands; J. M-ulooley, severely cut and burned, and removed to the Wangamii Hospital ; •!. Barr (Horopito), arms and hands burned, and suffering from shock; J. K. Carter, .severe shaking, and J. Carter sprained ankle. Most of the accidents were .sushi i red by jumping from tho balcony. Mr Corki'd, inspector of the Bank of New Zealand, escape! in his night attire, through tying a sheet to the balcony. J. Scott, conractor of he sewerage works, made a sensational rescue of young Cameron, aged 7. whom he found -lifter groping in a bedroom full of smoke, lying unconscious r,n the floor. The insurances on the building were C 1.200. Mr Cam(Mr>n's insurances are not available.
