BAKER'S PICTURES.

v»e gave some- account of the exceptionally fin© lot of pictures by Mr Win Geo. Baker, including those which he originally intended to exhibit in London, that are to be offered at auction by Messrs A. J. Johnson and Co. at the Club Hotel sample rooms at 2.30 p.m. to-day. They have attracted a good deal of interest, and form a really exceptional opportunity of securing fine pictures, which' Avill be likely in the case of the best of those offered, to increase in value as years go on, and therefore to be a profitable investment a.s Avell . as a present delight. The pictures cover many of the beauty spots of the Dominion. Lovers of art have found much attraction in the display in the past week. The term q( inspection, however, has expired, for the Avhole of the collection will be offered for sale by Johnson and Co. this afternoon. As it is unlikely t,hat the eminent artist (Mr G. Wf Baker) will provide many more such works the pictures to be offered are undoubtedly valuable on this account. There are many of Now Zealand's delightful scenic assets portrayed on caiivas in a manner to command wide admiration, whilst the water colours are also of high merit. The artist has indeed shown that he has a close .acquaintance with nature by his faithfnl depiction of rivers, lakes, woods, :uui mountains. a ll 0 f which appeal strongly to the aeathetic taste of those who view the pictures. People who value work* of art should not miss this sale.
