COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY .MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Ma.4terton County Council was held yesterday, there being present Crs C. C. Kebbell (in the chair), D. J. Cameron, Alex. Murray, «A. J. Percy, J. Miller and I). Foreman. Leave of absence was granted to Crs Beetliam and | Welch. I A letter was read from Mr A. G. Pilmer, requesting the Council to clear the remainder of the slip on the road leading to his house at the Lower Taueru. —As »t was considered that the road was a private one, it was decided to take no action. Mr J. B. Harding, of Alfredton, wrote, asking if the Council would relieve wool waggons from the beav traffic license fee. —The clerk stated that he had replied to the communication in accordance with a previous resolution of the Council. A request was received from Messr J. and J. Mcßne, that a slip be dealer from Mcßae's Road.—Left in tlv hands of the engineer, with power t< AC*.
Mr A. Robinson requested tha some metal bo put on Nursery Road which he said was in very bad order • —Referred to the engineer. Mr W. 0. Beard, solicitor to tin Council, advised that Mr J. Mac.m had signed the deed of dedication o land to widen Totarn Street, on th< understanding that the Council wouk bear the cost of moving the fence t< the new boundary.—lt was decided on the motion of Cr Foreman, thai the Council agree to remove the fence on condition that Mr Maeara supplj any new material required. A request was received from Mr 0 A. Bunny, of Lansdowne, that tin drain along his road front be cleaned out.. —The engineer reported thai I the work had been attended to. FINANCE COMMITTEE.' The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was read as follows, and adopted :—The treasurer reported as follows: General account. dr., £3663 183 8d; local bodies loan account, cr.,"£520 17s; accounts dr. balance, £2627 7s 2d;' receipts sinct last meeting, £476 5s lid. Accounts amounting to £1303 6s 9d were re commended for payment. It was decided that the two letters received 'from. Mr J. H. Rearxlon relating to the cottage erected by him on a reserve on Saunders' Road be referred to the representatives of the Alfredton Riding to deal with. With regard to the application of W. Davidson for consideration of the question of making him some-allowance for the 'accident which, he met with on June 17th last, the committee has no recommendation to make. It w:is decided to recommend the Council to submit the suggested alterations to the agreement with the Borough Council relating to the modification of the remaining work to be carried out at the northern approach at Masterton to the County solicitor, with an instruction to proceed with the preparation of the fair copy of. the argeement provided lie concurs in the suggested alterations.
GENERAL. It was decided that notice* he given to owners to cut overlapping, trees on County roads. • The proposal of the engineer for the expenditure of thirds on the Mangorei Road was approved. The engineer was authorised, to procure teams for the working of the Alfredton grader. The question of providing roadmen's cottages in the Alfredton Riding Avas left in the hands of the Councillors for tho Riding. The engineer was authorised to erect a. culvert, or platform bridge, on the* HomoAvood fiat, subject to Mr Tathazn tontributing £•]() towards the work. '
