COUNTY COUNCIL.
ENGINEER'S REPORT. The following report from the engineer (Mr I). McLachlan) was read atyostenlav's meeting of the Mastertor- Countv Council: —. OPAKI RIDING. Matahiwi Road—The delivery of 600 c. yards of metal lor repairs has been completed. Repairs have been made to the watortal.'.es and outlet drains of the Miki Miki Road. < Pi rau Swamp Road.-The breaking and raking of large stones on • the I Pirau Swamp Road has been ->tended to. The roadman is now engaged m surface repairs and stone-breaking on the Opaki Loop Line. I have to report that no efficient action his been taken to deal with the overhanging trees on this line. TEWHITf RIDING. Masterton Waiinata and Branch Roads—Contract No 283. Metal repairs to the M.isterton Waiinata and I Branch Roods have been completed. UPPER TAUER.U'R-IDING. Wairere Road.— 1 inspected the" above road in company with the Councillor for the Riding, as a sharp bend in the ronl has been the .subject for j many complaints owing to the difficulj ty experienced in getting wool out. I The improvement would entail the eulverting to cost about £3O. As a result of the inspection the Councillor for the Riding recommends that the work be carried out. Mangaria Road. —I would recommend that the balance of kun and accrued thirds amounting to £55 be expended in painting the Mangaria Bridge and further improving the road by removing butts of slips encroaching on the formation widths as the result of ki.st winter's extraordinary damage. ALFREDTON RIDING. j Tiramnea —Wiutawhiti Road. —1 ■ have inspected the proposed route (a distance of between 3 and I miles) accompanied by Messrs Holmes and Richardson, and think that it will bo a practicable line for the purpose required. Messrs Holmes and Richardson have each agreed to send a man, gratis, to assist in clearing and defining the line.
I have to report the delivery of si new "Duncan" grader in Alfredton. It has been delivered in four par-, eels and has yet to be set up. I would recomend that horses be hired for the use of grader during this season. I would direct the Council's attention to the necessity of having some fenced in enclosures for the purpose of securing horse, s at workable points and also some provision for sheltering men and implements. WAJNUTORUI RIDING. Riversdale Road.—The extension of contract No. 28-1, 50 chains formation and eulvertiug, has been carried out and is now on the usual term of maintenance. CV Tbogood 'ha s authorised th* further Formation of 4£ chains giving access to the beach. Cost of : formation £B. This has also been ! completed. With the acquiescence of CV Toogood T have started men to open a quarry to procure rock for the loads in the vicinity of Rlairlogie •lunction and Kalminingi.
