CLOSER SETTLEMENT.
So far as can be discovered, none c.f the closer settlement proposals that have been placed ueiore the Government from this district 'Jre likely to be brought to fruition. Now that the session is over, and In- has time to look around, it is ta he hoped that the member for Masterton will use his best efforts to secure some important sub-divisions !in the neighbourhood of Masterton. The new Land Act is on its trial. The Government claims that it will result in closer settlement. Let us apply the test to Masterton. If the Act brings no response from settlers in this district within a .reasonable period, then wo shall write it down a failure, with a very big "K."
