THE PONGAROA MAIL.
A^jirterinined fight is just' now in progress between Pahiatua and Eketahuna over the Pongaroa mail contract. There appears to ! e -a desire | on the part of a considerable section of the Pongaroa publio to be brought 1 into closer touch with Master ton, 1 which is the business centre of tho electorate. It is thought that by bringing tho mail via Eketahuna, tho convenience of the general public would be better served than unl der present conditions. And, after I all, it is the duty of the Postal DeI partmont to cater for the general public, and not for particular localities. The Pahiatua roite appears to have nothing more to i c com mend it than that it suits the hook of oer, tain Pahiatua business houses. Surely the great bulk of Pongaroa. and Rakaunni settlers hove a right to be considered.
