SCENE IN COURT.

COUNSEL AND POLICE. (By Telegraph — Pres» Association.^ WHANGAREI, Last Night. The prisoner Huston, who was recently recaptured, after escaping from gaol, was before the Court to-day, and was committed on three charges of burglary and theft, and two charges of breaking from custody. Huston said that on search being made, ho tad the knife concealed, with which he cut his way out of the coll. He finally remarked, "After your search J could take a sawmill into the cells." The prisoner was carefully watched during the afternoon a« ho stated he would repeat his morning's performance, and release himself from the .handcuffs. Solicitor Edmunds, at the close of the first case, declared himself as counsel for tho y)risoncr. Ho asked for an interview but the police objected, as counsel was,not engaged by Huston. Mr Edmurtds addressed the Bench lengthily, but the Bench declined to allow an interview, Mr Edmunds then handed the prisoner a paper, which.was quickly, snatched by a detective. A scuffle ensued between the police and Mr Edmunds, who waß finally thrown over his chair. Mr Edmunds appeared on two later cases against Huston, and then abruptly left the Court w'fcVioiit making ■any comment. When taking the prisoner from the Court to tho cells tonight the crowd hooted the police, and gave throe cheers for Huston.
