THE AIR PROBLEM.

The Auckland correspondent of the Otago Daily Times says: —"It will bo remembered that last year a series of attempts to solre tlje problem of the air were made in Auckland and that a local syndicate went so far as to import a Farman mchine from the Old Country. The attempt, however, was not crowned with success, and latterly the costly machine lias boon relegated to a storage shed. Within the jiasfc few khysi' there has arrived, in Auckland Mr R. Claude Couturier, licensed aviator, and a graduate from Mr Wilbur Wright. Mr Courturier, having ascertained that such an aero-, piano existed in Auckland, his entered' into negotiations with the local syndicate, of which Mr Geo. Henning is'the principal, to take the machine i'i hand for -the purpese of making a flight. Mr Courturier has come to New Zealand with the idea of establishing an aviation- school, either in this Dominion or in Australia. Ho thinks that. Auckland offers great facilities from a topographical point of view as a field for aeroplanes and for hydroplanes. "It would be quite simple," he said, "to take passengers in a hydroplane and travel with them over the waters of the harbour at a height of about 50ft." Mr Courturier also has in hind the possibilities of working up an extensive display of avating for exhibition.
