MOKAU JONES.
The Joint Committee of both branches [ of tho Legislature which has investiI gated the petition of Mr "Mokau" Jones, recommends tho payment of a gum of £3OOO in full satisfaction of all chiftis the petitioner may have against the State. . It- would appear, therefore, that it is~now recognised that Jones luis a claim upon the conntry. Why this claim has been persistently and consistently ignored by previous Governments one is at a loss to know. If the payment of £3OOO .■will vindicate the Government and brirtg to an end a trouble that has Ijecome nauseating to the community, the recommendation should be r promptly adopted.
