Redmond in the House of Commons the Right Hon Herbert Samuel, Postmaster-General, said that negotiations with the Pacific Cable Board and .companies were nearly completed. He hoped that they would result in a cheaper system. Week-end messages would be introduced, though it was impossible to fix a charge as low as Mr Redmond suggested, namely 5s for every ten words, with a carrying delay of from fortyeight to seventy-two hours or longer.
