A SPLENDID SERIES.
, '-an'di«iaic6' which was present at thte Foresters' Hall last evening were delighted with the excellence of tho programme presented. Each item being ; applauded. Asphalt Quarries' in Sicily showed these great works to advantage, and an industry of which little is.known in our f:\ir Dominion v.vs on'ained to, the minutest detail'. A jrro.ij. feature was the blasting, and huge sections of the quarry were seen to come rolling down in general confin-ion as the result of ignition of the por.detv The .star drama wa-s The Torment,: or The Scientist's Secret, in which a powerful story is told. The secret of the scientist is that he has invented .)■ marvellous but terrible, explosive. His wife's brother ha«. lost his money through gambling, and in order to make some more money forces his wife to .get her husband confined in a mental liospjita.l, and l here he goes through 'the torture," On the daughter, discovering the plot she gets her father liberated, and when he gets the villiau in his laboratory a' scuffio ensues and the explosive goes off. The wife's brother is killed, but the scientist has his ve son restored. The Baby Bride, a quaint little story of two children running.away to get marfound., special iavdw with those. present.' Man's denes-is gives a .little light on man hi his natural state, and a. love story unearthed from the cave-dwellers of'tho darkages contributes an instructive item to tho bill-ol'-faro. The Simscta Gun has a pathetic touch. Aw. old States soldier is about to leavo his homo for the muster en ■ Decoration Day, whe» be is seined with a heart attack and is obliged to remain at homo. In the .distance he hears the rejoicing of ! those assembled, aiuP this recalls old times. Those are given in a section of the picture, and as each gun is ■ fired a.nd bugle note sounded, the veteran has fresh memories brought back. After his family return from the festivities they fiud the old soldier dead. His "Sunset Gun" has been red for the ton tw*. If I Were King told a pretty .story. The Tied Cross Martyr depicts a war theme of a powerful nature. This picture goes to show the prominent mrt, in .warfare an. aeroplane can take. There were a ..number of other films of interest, and the whole hVt of subjects contributed a pwrarmiu' of a high order of merit. Further opportunities of seeing tho entertainment will be given this evening and tomorrow, night.
