DEATH DUTIES.

A question which the present Government might tackle with advantage to tho Dominion is that relating to death duties. At the present time these, duties arc enforced without discrimination, and with such rigidity as to constitute a positive hardship. There can bo no objection to large estates being called, upon to contribute substantially to the Exchequer; but to extract the pound of flesh from esstates upon .which largo families are dependent is positively wrong. There should be a greater discrimination in exacting death, tolls than at present exists, and the State should not appropriate moneys which are necessary to keep families from the poor-hou.se.
