MAUIUCEVILLE WEST. The weather of the past week had ' been most pleasant, warm showers \ falling at intervals while the nights ' • are warm. Needless to say tho busy J farmer is taking advantage of the so I conditions to get the crops in , for the coming season, some of which | are up and looking well. Taking the district and stock in it as a whole it has never looked better at this time of the year. The monthly meeting of the school committee took place last 1: ' night. Present —Messrs K. McKinnon (chairman), C. Erickson, R. W. Pedersen, A...- E. Clarke, P. E. Mortenscn, J. Brash and A. Forsberg. A considerable amount of business of a special nature was gone through. The secretary reported a credit balance of £lO 15s. Accounts amounting to £1 14s 6d were passed for payment. During the meeting a resolution was carried that the secretary write to the Education Board with regard to tho selection of teachers by classification. The dance held on Friday niglit * last proved a very successful function, the outside districts being well represented.. Ercellent music "was provided by Mr J. Jensen, and the duties of M.C. fell to Mr J. Elliot. During the evening songs were sung by Miss M. McKenzie and Miss Brooks. A meeting for the purpose of forming a-cricket club .was held on Monday night, when Mr E. W. Neilson was elected chairman and Mr E. f Mattson secretary. The club is to be known 'as'the Mauriceville West Cricket Club, and already-.the membership stands at about 25. Practice will be commenced at once in a paddock kindly lent Ivy Mr W. Lemberg.
