tf.Z. PHYSICAL CULTURE ASSOCIATION. 1 SECOND ANNUAL COMPETITIONS. The second annual iff connection with the N.Z. Physical Culture Association were held in tho gymnasium of the Y.M.C.A. in Masterton yesterday. The afternoon competitions were for lightweights (under lOst) and for schoolboys. Tho judges were Drs. Prior and Cooke and Messrs A. Donald and Fenton, with Major Skey as referee. In the lightweight division there were nine competitors from Christchurch, Wellington and Masterton, and there were twenty schoolboy contestants. The judges' award for the afternoon competitions were as follows: Lightweights.—fl. L. West (Christchurch) 1, J. Hetrick (Christchurch 2, L. Berg and H. Gundersoil (tie) 3, J. McHattie 5, W. Compton 6, In the evening the attendance was fair and, the heavyweight competition was judged. There were eleven contestants, 3;'.! d the points awarded to the place-getters were very close. The winner proved to be J. McClelland of Christchurch. The other placed men were Robinson (Masterton) 2, Hazeltoil t (Christchurch) 3,, Carnegie (Christchurch) 1, Dawson (Christchurch) 5. The winners in both sections were pupils of Mr F. A. Hornibrook, -of Christchurch. During the evening an, exhibition of juggling with weights, and, muscleposing was given by Mr Garnet Sirlis, of Wellington, who, was. enthusiastic; ally applauded. A tug-of-war took place between North and South Island competitors, and resulted in the North winning outright, after two strenuous pulls. The schoolboys' championship resulted D. Speedy (Masterton), 1, H. Gardiner (Masterton) 2, R. ishaw (Masterton) 3. The only competitors. The schoolboys' team championship was won'by Masterton No. 3, Masterton No. 1 being second.
