A VISIT TO KLTH'AM. (By Association.) KLTHAM. Tart- Night. Lord Islington visited Elthani o'" j Saturday. He airived by a specir.i train at 8..'50, and was welcomed at the station by the Ifo-; W. F. Cairn cross, the Mayer ("Mr T. B. Crump) and others, a large croud being present. The Governor then proceeded, with the chairman of local bodies, on a tour of inspection of the Egir.ont box factory and the. Eitham dairy factory. He formally laid the foundation stone of a now curing room at the latter place. In the course of a long address at this ceremony, Lord Islington said the dairy industry was- 1 the most important in the world, and particularly in Ta-ranaki and the Dominion as a whole. Pie congratulated the farmers of Taranaki on their advanced ideas in connection with this industry, particularly in regard to co-operation, which was indeed an important thing in any industry. Cooperation should, he said, he applied not only as it had been in th" past but in the ciso of imports, and itwould be fou"d very beneficial in every way. Means of communication were badly needed, a nd he would advise the construction of light-lines of railway, such as he had himself seen in other countries. He also advised j the use of hasie slag. Money spent lon fertilisers was well spent. They | had good markets, a great one .'• t Home and a growing one in Canada. He congratulated them on their fine factories, and expressed groat pleasure to be present to open that one. Afternoon tea was partaken of, at which there was a good attendance. After spending a couple of hours in town His Excdlonoy departed at half past seven for Wellington.
