JJASTERTQN PICTURE COMPANY. "THK TRAGIC LIKK OK MOXA LISA." 'flic change of programme presented at the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon and evening attracted crowded houses, the building being packed from floor to ceiling. The matinee provided a rare series of pictorial gems for the children, which, judging by the hearty applause which greeted each film, was thoroughly appreciated. The eveiiiiig programme must be accounted one of the very finest programme... yet submitted in Mastorton. Kadi, picture represented I the highest quality in its .special | class of photo-play, and there was | I not a dull moment in tin' entire programme. The magnificent coloured art drama entitled "The Tragic Life of Jiona Lisa" touched a very high note of excellence. The beautiful colouring, the wcnderful stage effects and magniliceut dress worn in the ages gone by, produced a wonderful effect. The story of the life <:f the famous actress is intensely interesting, and fairly bristles with intrigue and exciting episodes which were part of the life of long ago. The final scene in which the heroine meets wick an untimely death is .particularly dramatic and powe; fully realistic. This picture L always worth seeing, as it is Hi ' best of recent productions in the cinematographic world. 'I he scenics in this programme are a particularly interesting lot, Pa the- Gazette, "The (v.ar\s Gardens," and "Wonders of the Sea" display the world's most wonderful and entrancing scenery. The .comics wore specially selected, and included the screamingly funny films "Is Ho Eligible?" "Beroit's Fortune." and "Kind-heart-ed Dupin." The audience highly appreciated the marvellously funny .situations of these pictures, which kept them in great g;jod humour. This superb programme wil! h. A shown again to-night and on Tuesday for the last time. Those wishing t;> witness the hi test, and most up-to-date picture pngrammo of the day cannot do better than visit ihe Town Hall this evening. THOMPSOrJ-PAYNE PICTURES. A SKVSATIOXAL PICTURE. Several hundred children attended Thompson and Payne's matinee on Saturday afternoon, while in the eventhe hall was crowded with a delighted audience. A subject that should create an impression long to be remembered in the miild.s of tho-e who ■see- it, will lie presented at the Foresters Hall to-night for the first time. entitled "From the Bottom of the Sea." This "hup" exclusive of two reel lengths was obtained with considerable- difficulty, and had it not been for the material assistance <:( the United States Government, this feat of daring would never have accomplished. The thrilling plot is handled in a masterly manner, and is of inestimable educational value. The story deals with the treacherous sinking of a submarine, and in order to save the drowning v v^ w _ a young officer willingly risks his iifv and allows himself to be shot through the torpedo tube while the boat is 'at the bottom of the sea.' Supporting this remarkable special many other attractive subjects are offered. "The | Spider's Webb," by Vitagraph, portrays how large swindles are worked, and is a warning to the unwary and those who want to get rich quick. The characters in this splendid drama are taken by Maurice Cortello, Leah Baird, Zona Kiel'o, Van Brook, Earle Williams, Bill Shea and Harold Weston. "The Frontier Doctor," by Essanay, and "dean and the Jail," by Kalem, should make a mostpopular dramatic portion. Scenic and .scientific are included in this programme, which contains no less than eighteen items, all carefully selected o n account of their interesting a nd entertaining qualities.
