AND THE MFAT COMPANIES. A SERIOUS OUTLOOK. j Tn conversation with a representa- I tive of the Wairarapa Age on Saturday last. Mr .1. C. Cooper, managing director of li'ie Wellington Farmers' Meat Comoany, stated that it'wa* probable there would be some interesting developments with the slaughtermen of the Dominion in the flush of the slaughtering The slaughtermen's award for Christcihureh expired about* the end of the year, and that for the Wellington a»d Waingawa companies in the month of January. Although provision was made in the agreements for the renewal of tihe award for another two years, the slaughtermen bad alredy lodged demands for shorter hours and higher wages. "If these are conceded/' said Mr Cooper, "it will mean that tilie farmers will receive so much less for their stock. If they are rejected—and I believe they will bethere is likely to be'trouble." Mr Cooper thought the situation was s w,h till at a warning should be given farmers not to pay too much for their store sheep.
