PHYSICAL CULTURE
AX EXPERT'S OPINION. Writing to Mr R. O. Jarrett, of Masterton, Sergeant-Major Meeeham. of Auckland, says: —"I remember well being up at your old school in Wanganui, .and physical culture lias "made great strides in New Zealand since, but nothing; t.-» what these championship meetings will do. All 'the competitors at the competition in Christchurch last year were beautiful specimens of manhood, and even tlho losers had something to be proud of. They had the look and the feel about them lihat the man in the street knows nothing at all about. I nm very sorry, but [ will be unable to get away to sec the competitions, as my duties will keop me here in Auckland. Although not i" the physical culture line, yet I am not far apart from it, as niiave boon appcinted an.instructor in the Defence Foro.es, and a few hints on muscular development makes it verv interesting to those I am instructing, and by next contest T hope to have some young blood competim;. I. have no doubt that your •competitions at Masterton will'orore a'huge success, find although I will not he tlmre in person von may be sure F will he there in spirit."
