Thomas Cook, a labourer, employed in the Westinghouse brake sectiuu of the Petone railway workshops, was. shipping a hand brake 011 a main trunk carriage, which had been placed on the examination road in. the yard, when a shunting engine came right' on to the rear carriage and ran over him. Death was instantaneous. Deceased was 4o years old. He held decorations far service in Egypt and 'South Africa. Twelve months ago he came to New Zealand on account of his wife's health. The professional boxing contest of fifteen rounds for the welter-weight championship of N.Z., was fougl. c to-night between "Denny" Murphy, of New Zealand, the present champion, and "Lyn" Truscott, the Australian champion. The full fifteen rounds were fought. Truscott won-on points.
