A UNIQUE EVENT

MASTERTON'S PARISH PRIEST. QUARTER OF A CENTURY CELEBRATION. The Very Rev Dean McKenna, who on the 23rd of November will have completed his twenty-fifth year as parish priest of Masterton, is "to be tendered a complimentary conceit by his parishioners. A well attended meeting was held, to consider what steps should be taken to celebrate tho occasion. Mr A. R. Bunny occupied the chair, and in opening the meeting gave a* brief outline of the different works carried out by the dean during the last twenty-five years. His remarks were received with applause, and were endorsed by several other speakers. It was unanimously decided that an illuminated address and purse of sovereigns be presented to tho dean at a concert in the Town Hall at a date to be fixed, and the following were appointed to carry out all arrangements-for tho same: Messrs A. It. Bunny (chairman), M. ('. O'Oonnell (treasurer), J. A. McEwen (secretary), A. Stempa. H. .1. O'Learv, J. C. Cooper. B. Chapman, J. Savage, C. Connell. J. C. MrKillon, A. J. Percy and J. O'Dowd. Word has been received by the secretary that the surrounding districts are taking the matter up enthusiastically, and it is considered that tho celebrations will bo a great success.
