Tho Auckland Education Reserves Bill was reported from Committee, and the Council then adjourned as a murk of respect to tho memory of the late Mr Houston. KOTTSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. LAKE COLERIDGE WORKS. . Replying to Mr Davoy the Minister of Public Works said he intended sending an officer to-day or to-mor-row to the Lake Coleridge works, to report on the conditions, prevailing there. WIDOWS' PENSIONS.

The Widows' Pensions Act Amendment Bill was read a first time. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher explained that the Bill provided for the wives of inmates of mental hospitals (they now being really widows), an alteration of tho date on which the pension year commences, and for children born out of Now Zealand during the temporary absence of their parents. The alterations were estimated to cost about £SOOO vearlv. LATE MR HOUSTON. The Prime Minister moved, in connection with tho death of tho late Mr R. M. Houston that the House record its high sense of tho faithful services rendered by the late Mr Houston, and tenders its sympathy to his family and relatives. Mi- G. M. Russell seconded the motion. On the motion of tho Premier the Han so adjourned till 7.30, as a mark of respect for the deceased.
