THREE STAR ATTRACTION. Messrs Thompson and Payne will tonight eclipse all previous records in cinematography in Masterton by presenting at the Forseters' Hall threestar dramas, the exclusive rights of which have been obtained by them. They confidently state that the programme to-night will'be the finest everpresented in Masterton. The first star attraction is "The Groat Mine Disaster," which is founded on fact. The picture is 3000 foot long and is one of the most thrilling dramas yetattempted. Mining work is shown in graphic detail, and the unfold horrors of the dark depth's'oi" ihe earth are fully described bv the explosion and its awful effects. Tt is a drama which has to he seen to lie realised. .The second star is a great horticultural film by the Vitasr;wh,. Company. "Cardinal Wolsey" is an historical incident in the reign of King Henry VIII. of England. Tn staging this old-time subject, Vitagraph has used an extremely lavish hand, making a most gorgeous spectacular display as well as one of great historical interest. In one of the many scenes is seen the 'establishment of the English Church in Great Britain. The whole production is dressed and staged in accordance wit'li" the period and is claimed to be one of Vitagraph's triumphs. The third star is "The Love of an Island Maid"-(Selig), which portrays a story of primitive hearts and master passions, love and jealousy. Much excitement is contained in a sensational hand to hand conflict aboard a yacht., Gorgeous tropical scenery surround? this sensational melodrama. , "Little Boy Blue" is founded on the old nursery rhyme. Many comedies.of the right kind will, be given, including "Mot-hcr and; ) Daughters" (Edison), afd. "The 1 ! Widow of Rickie O'Neal" (Selig). A screaming burlesque is seen in "Sheep-, skin Trousers," while, many topical, scenic, animal studies and comic's are also included.
SATURDAY'S ATTRACTION. The exceptionally large audience which filled the Town Hall on Saturday evening had the pleasure of witnessing one of the very finest picture programmes yet presented in Master-, ton. It has been said that the picture craze is not having a very desirable effect upon the youth of New Zealand, but on the other hand it must also be.: said that pictures like, those presented ■ at the Masterton Town Hall on Saturday evening cannot have other than a beneficial-effect upon those who witness them.. Saturday's programmes, for both the matinee and evening, entailed a series of gems which have rarely been equalled in any part of the Dominion. The entire programme submitted'was of exceptional merit, and produced photo-plays of the latest manufacture and the very highest quality. It,would be invidious to mdividualise, as every film was of such high order. The dramas gave the greatest pleasure, while the comics made the largo audience go into fits of laughter: The educational and scenic films were highly valuable from an instructive point of view, and displayed interesting happenings in many parts of the world.
