An inquest on the body of Frederick Smith, the victim of the tram fatality on Saturday, was opened toda,y. Medical evidence was given to the effect that, death was caused through shock following en injuries rerexoived. The evidence of witnesses was conflicting as to the length of tinio Smith was under the car before. being released, the estimate's varying np to about 2o minutes. The delnv was regarded as tenons by the medical witnesses, who stated that the chance of recovery was thereby considerably lessened. There are still several witnesses to"T> 0 examined.
