AUCKLAND, L-st Nijriit. 1 At a meeting of the Cou.\i'.:il of the United Labour Party, a moiJolf" proi testing against tho treatment of the \Vaihi strikers was negatived by 19 votes to 4, on 'the ground that tho men had been imprisoned not for striking but for breaking the law. WELL TREATED IN GAOL. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The Waihi strikers confined in the Auckland gaol for refusing to find sureties to keep the peace, beyond the deprivation of their liberty, are net under any hardship. The food is plain but wholesome ; they are confined in a yard by themselves, and have no prisoners. The gaol library is at their disposal, and they can receive any literature supplied by friends. They are, however, deprived of tobacco. They can be visited by friends once a month. Tho gaoler states that in the event of any person .wistajng to make arrangements for their release by finding the required Sureties, he will he only too glad to (relax this regulation. INSTANT RELEASE DEMANDED. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The waterside workers carried a resolution condemning the imprisonment of the Waihi miners for peaceful picketing, and demanding their in stint release from prison. A GISBORNE RESOLUTION. GISBORNE, Last Night. At a largely attended public meeting to-night, the following resolution was carried:—"That this meeting of citizens censures the Government for sending police to Waihi, and demands that the men imprisoned in connection with the strikes be immediately released."
